Critically evaluating the current state of scholarship on meat production and consumption, this book shows how the study of meat is both inherently multidisciplinary and socially important. Harvey Neo and Jody Emel explicate the ways in which geography can further engage in and advance meat studies, thereby mapping a "geography of meat". Amongst other things, such a geography of meat will attempt to account for the spatial differences in meat production and consumption (including non-consumption). By unravelling the geographies of meat, the book examines, amongst other things, the process of commodification in meat. Both meat production and consumption have become increasingly complex and interrelated, through the process of commodification which is situated within the spheres of politics, economics, culture and environment. Grounded in original research conducted in North America, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, the book argues that the question of meat should be at the forefront of policy and political circles so as to make meat production and consumption more ethical and equitable.
